Thanks.

If anyone wants to use the information I will be posting up, then I am more than happy for them to do so. It's an Open Resource, so you don't even have to credit me for it as long as you don't claim you wrote it. Obviously I'd prefer you did credit me, just because it'd be lovely to see. :). If any war assets have pictures and you want it, let me know, I've got them in 3x the resolution.

The following is the Spectre Terminal section of the mod I was aiming to make. Parts of it were going to be moved into different sections, but I'll just list the lot here for you.

Varren Research

Spoiler:
Requirements

The play must listen to the Varren research logs during Priority: Sur’kesh to receive this.

Spectre Terminal Message

Bioweapon Field Test

The STG is always researching new exotic tactics to win their wars, and they believe the Reaper War is the perfect environment to test some of their more unique experiments. Their recent research involves varren that have been enhanced through training, drugs and genetic manipulation to harass an enemy in the field. They want to drop packs of them onto a colony under siege, these would be trained to only target Reaper husks, but their efforts have been blocked. Spectre authorisation would bypass the blocks on the field test.

Consequences

War Asset Updates: Received after Priority: Tuchanka

Minor Colonial Support

A small colony in the Attican Traverse has gone silent, losing the Alliance a vital supply of platinum.

Field Test

From: Lieutenant Tolan

Commander Shepard,

The STG deployed the varren biological weapon on a colony in the Terminus Systems. A field test that I was told you had authorised. Our experiment focused around training the varren to register the husks as their primary prey. In addition to an increased size and ferocity through the use of steroids and embedded adrenaline injectors. I will not bore you with the details.

The experiment did not go as we had simulated. Only 11% of casualties that can be directly attributed to the varren were their intended targets. The other 89% were colonists and our unfortunate STG team. The varren pack has escaped into the wild. There is no need to put them down, the Reapers will soon do that job for us.

We are not deeming this mission a success. Not to worry, we have not fully written off the project.

Lieutenant Tolan
STG

Batarian Justice

Spoiler:
Requirements

This spectre terminal message will arrive once the player has completed Tuchunka Turian Rescue, the message has nothing at all to do with that mission but it feels like a suitable amount of story has passed for it to be an issue.

Spectre Terminal Message

“Justice for Bahok” Activists

An unwelcome side effect of batarian refugees on the Citadel has been the appearance of activist groups decrying how the galaxy is racist towards them. One group, “Justice for Bahok”, has demanded that Commander Shepard be brought to trial for genocide in the Bahok system and for his frequent racist actions against the batarian people. Unsurprisingly the activists are gaining some media attention, and though they are unlikely to achieve their aims, their activities are a risk to galactic unity. Spectre authorisation could enable a smear campaign against them in the media, which should discredit their leadership and turn citizens against their point of view.

Consequences

Email: Received after Attican Traverse: Krogan Team/The Rachni

ANN News Alert: New Article on “Bahok; Batarians”

From: Alliance News Network Information Partners

Advocates have pulled away from the batarian activist group “Justice for Bahok” after it emerged that organisers had heavily invested in the slaver planet Logasiri. Found in the Batalla system, Logasiri is a batarian world infamous for having the some of the most horrifying conditions for slaves in the galaxy. The person who broke the story was Westerlund News reporter Khalisah Bint Sinan al-Jilani, a woman who, until recently, was only famous for her interviews with human Spectre Commander Shepard and her stubborn attitude.

Since the exposé C-Sec has taken “Justice for Bahok” into custody for violating numerous Sapient Rights issues and on charges related to terrorism. In a surprising twist, there has been a noticeable increase in batarian volunteers for the war, with many citing a need to prove their species being worthy of Citadel protection after their leaders have repeatedly damaged their relations with the rest of the galaxy.

War Asset Update: Received after Attican Traverse: Krogan Team/The Rachni

Khalisah al-Jilani

Her exposé on the batarian activist group “Justice for Bahok” has seen a 10% increase in her viewership, interviews and propaganda through her network has proven to be more effective.

Batarian Fleet
Military Strength:
+5

There has been an increase in refugee volunteers to serve in the few surviving ships of the batarian fleet following the arrest of slavers on the Citadel, many citing the desire to prove themselves in the eyes of a galaxy that disdains them.

Pyjak Bombs

Spoiler:
Requirements

This would require the player to have completed Priority: Tuchunka, so the Krogan are on board with the war effort.

Spectre Terminal Message

Pyjak Detonation Devices

Pyjaks are a pest species that have spread throughout the galaxy. A krogan scientist has demanded funds, researchers and a training facility to turn them into living bombs. The pyjak would be implanted with VI-controlled devices would force them to run towards the most dangerous husk variants, the device would then detonate once they are within a certain radius. The krogan do not currently have the means to use this strategy, but authorisation from a spectre would get the scientist all he needs to put the plan into action.

Consequences

War Asset: Received after Priority: Perseus Veil

Pyjak Detonation Devices
Military Strength:
+4

A nightmare for animal rights activists, Pyjak Detonation Devices carry on an ancient tradition among sentients of bringing animals to the battlefield. Implanted with VI-controlled incendiary devices, these pyjaks creep up to Reaper husks before exploding at their feet, destroying their legs and setting them on fire. Reaper forces have currently proven incapable of countering the threat posed by these space monkeys, turning them from a galactic pest into a useful weapon of war.

Email: Received after Priority: Perseus Veil

ANN Alert: New Article on “Reapers; Pyjak; Animal Rights”

From: Alliance News Network Information Partners

The Galactic Humane Society has announced its intent to petition the Council over what it calls “significant animal rights issues” following reports that the krogan have been using pyjaks as explosive devices. Pyjaks, commonly known as “Space Monkeys”, are an invasive species that have found a foothold on at least a dozen worlds and are capable of constructing colonies of rough shelters, which has given xenobiologists the impression they are more intelligent than they first appear. The GHS had this to say in a prepared statement:

“We understand that the galaxy is facing an army of genocidal starships, but that’s no excuse for the significant animal rights horrors we’ve discovered caused by the krogan. How would they like it if someone threw them against giant robotic monsters? They need to remember that animals are people too!”

The Council and Systems Alliance have declined to comment on the reports or the stance taken by the Galactic Humane Society, but when we posed that question to a krogan spokesman, he had only this to say:

“Bring them on, krogan eat monsters for breakfast.”

Border Checks

Spoiler:
Requirements

Much like the Citadel Surveillance spectre terminal message, this is given after the Cerberus Coup and is a direct response to it from the turian members of C-Sec.

Spectre Terminal Message

Border Checks

Turian officers in C-Sec have put forward a motion that refugees should undergo interrogation, body checks, deep scans and other intense procedures to root out potential terrorist agents. Though they are considered an understandable response to the threat posed by Cerberus, it is the fact that these measures would be targeted at humans alone which has led to outrage by the human section of C-Sec. So far the inhumane measures have been blocked, but the threat of Cerberus is severe and they could protect the Citadel from infiltration. Spectre authorisation would force the motion through and implement the border checks immediately.

Consequences

War Asset Updates: Received after Priority: Geth Dreadnought

Citadel Fleet
Military Strength:

A direct response to the Citadels latest security checks has been an increase in banditry in the Serpent Nebula. Many of those caught are humans who were refused asylum on the Citadel who claim it was the only course left to them.

ANN Alert: New Article on “C-Sec; Refugees; The Reaper War”

From: Alliance News Network Information Partners

The aftermath of the cerberus coup attempt saw the Council tighten security in the hopes of bringing safety and reassurance to the populace. The majority of citizens welcomed these measures, with a poll taken shortly after their introduction hitting 94% support, a level of unprecedented endorsement that has not been seen since the crackdown on rogue AI after the Morning War.

However, recent leaks suggest that these measures are not all that they seem. It has emerged that the new border checks are exclusive to humans arriving on the station, and that they have been described as “invasive”. Pro-human and civil rights groups have petitioned the Council looking for answers to why human refugees have been interrogated, strip-searched, deep-scanned and had their children taken away for hours at a time.

Though the Council is yet to comment directly on this situation, they have reiterated their support for C-Sec’s efforts to keep the Citadel safe during this interstellar crisis.

C-Sec border inspections have uncovered a number of cerberus agents attempting to infiltrate the station. Interrogations have had little success beyond discovering the location of a cerberus laboratory. After an initial raid recovered research data, the base was destroyed from orbit by a turian cruiser.

Portable Keystones

Spoiler:
Requirements

This spectre terminal requires Priority: Geth Dreadnought to have been completed, just because it gives the impression that more time has passed and the krogan have been thinking of new ways of winning the war.

Spectre Terminal Message

Portable Keystone Mechanism

Informants from Tuchanka have uncovered attempts by a krogan shaman to utilise their keystone ritual against the Reapers, by luring thresher maws to areas of prolific husk activity. This new tactic stems from eyewitness reports of the thresher maw Kalros dragging a Reaper beneath the earth, but the krogan are struggling to create a portable version of the keystone. Spectre authorisation would send a team of researchers to Tuchanka to finish work on the device, allowing it to be field tested.

Consequences

Keystone

From: Shaman Urdnot

I’ll never get the hang of these things, asari-designed crap.

The Keystone is in ruins, your ‘technicians’ tore it apart to build their thresher lures. Our history and customs torn down once again. No change there, krogan always value survival over tradition, I thought humans were different.

The PKM’s, as your damned technicians call it, or Keystones to everyone else have hit the husks hard. Only madmen would run into the middle of Reaper territory to plant one of those things. When the earth shakes and bodies fly, you know it was worth it. One tradition is gone, but sacrificing it might have bought us the chance to make up new ones.

We’ll take them to Menae next, the turians are going to **** themselves!

Shaman Urdnot

New War Asset: Received after Priority: Rannoch

Image
Portable Keystone Mechanism
Military Strength:

Based on the Keystone used in krogan rites of passage, PKMs are disposable tools used to lure thresher maws to attack regions overrun with husk activity. Essentially, they are sonic beacons that send vibrations to thresher maws burrowing through the earth. These then move at incredible velocities towards the beacon, where they will rise up and attack anything in the surrounding area which they believe are encroaching on their territory. Early field tests have yielded promising results.

New Husk Variants

From: General Corinthus

Commander Shepard:

I am under the impression that you authorised research into the Portable Keystone Mechanisms that the krogan have been testing on Menae. I wish this e-mail was praising you for your foresight, but I believe you lacked any when you decided on this course of action.

The first dozen tests were so impressive that they even had me convinced, they must also have convinced the Reapers as they have turned all thresher maws they can find into husks. I have had reports from other turian controlled worlds that have used these PKM’s and they are reporting the same; the Reapers are now using thresher maws.

With respect, do not authorise the krogan to test further weapons on our worlds without our consent.

Citadel Surveillance

Spoiler:
Requirements

This spectre message is a response to the attempted coup of the Citadel by Cerberus, and as such it requires Priority: Citadel II to be completed.

Spectre Terminal Message

Civilian Surveillance Measures

Cerberus’ attempted coup of the Citadel has highlighted a number of security issues that need to be resolved; primarily the fact that even Councillors can turn traitor, either through indoctrination, misplaced loyalty or lust for power. In an attempt to cull future incursions by terrorists, C-Sec has drawn up plans to remotely monitor all communication and to use their resources to dig deep into the background of each and every man, woman and child on the station. The plans have been stalled by the Council, but the backing of the Spectres should see the motion passed in the interest of public safety.

Consequences

War Asset Update: Received Immediately

Citizens have responded to new surveillance measures through demonstrations and riots. Policing protests and analysing data feeds has left C-Sec struggling.

War Asset Update: Received after Priority: Geth Dreadnought

New intelligence gathering systems have led to a large number of terrorists, cerberus operatives and indoctrinated persons being arrested. Though only a fraction of these threats are now known by the general populace, their capture has led to an increase in volunteers applying to join C-Sec.

Posthumous Medal

Spoiler:
Requirements

The story arc about the Tuchanka Bomb needs to have been completed, otherwise this makes no sense at all.

Spectre Terminal Message

Palladium Star

Lieutenant Tarquin Victus may not have been the most effective battlefield leader fielded by the Turian Hierarchy but he sacrificed himself to spare millions of krogan from certain death. This is an action beyond the call of duty and worthy of the highest honours in Council Space, yet the classified nature of his assignment has meant his efforts have passed by without memorial. A recommendation for Lt. Victus to receive the Palladium Star would honour his memory.

Consequences

Citadel Medical Supplies

Spoiler:
Requirements

There are no special requirements for this Spectre Terminal message, all you need to do is complete all the missions up until you get to the Citadel for the first time in this game, and then you are ready.

Spectre Terminal Message

Cold Storage Supplies

With the war spreading to multiple fronts, it will not take long for there to be a shortage of basic supplies such as food and medicine. Stockpiles of medication and omni-gel reserved for future turian application are sitting in cold storage in warehouses across the Citadel. Spectre authorisation would allow these to be put to use on the battlefield to keep their marines alive now rather than saving refugees in the future.

Disciplinary Companies

Spoiler:

Priority: Horizon needs to have been completed.

Spectre Terminal Messages

Disciplinary Companies

The economy is struggling to cope with the demands of the Reaper War, and one of the biggest drains after the military is the justice sector, where the percentage of criminals across the galaxy has heavily increased. In a surprise move, the volus have proposed the formation of Disciplinary Companies, conscripting prisoners into military units to be used on the front lines in exchange for cutting years away from their sentences. It is highly likely that the proposed strategy was initially drafted by the turians before being presented by the volus, but it could help reinforce embattled planets and will free massive funds for the military.

I used to live on Shanxi with my son, it’s a beautiful place and we were happy there. Then the Reapers came, yet somehow beyond all hope, the two of us escaped with our lives. He was fascinated with you and had been ever since your inauguration into the Spectres.

We ran to the Citadel, we were told you were there, that we would be safe, but we didn’t have enough to eat. We were so hungry. Huang took it upon himself to steal credits to buy us food. He was only eighteen. Eighteen! But they shipped him off regardless, and now I’ll never see him again.

Incomplete: Experiments on Fallen Soldiers

Spoiler:
Idea

The morality of this is whether it is right to treat the dead in such a dishonourable manner in the hopes of protecting the living. What brings this more into moral conflict is that the Turians have a deep resentment of the mistreatment of the dead, so far as in not to allow people to take vids/pictures of them. For humans it would be morally conflicted, but with the turians it also has spiritual/religious and judicial views to take into account.

Requirements

This Spectre Terminal message requires you to have completed Priority: Palaven, which makes more sense when it involves both the Turian Hierarchy and the Systems Alliance. At this point of the game the two species’ homeworlds are embroiled in the conflict with reaper forces and even at this early stage things are getting desperate.

Spectre Terminal Message

Husk Armament Research

Researchers have requested the remains of soldiers so that they can conduct tests to understand the effects of husk weaponry. To brute force useful results they have expressed the need for hundreds of dead bodies, many of which would not be in a fit state to return to their families. These methods would be deemed unethical and illegal during peace time, but authorising the research could potentially save thousands fighting the Reapers.

Incomplete: The New Councillor

Spoiler:
Idea

The idea for this is that I was annoyed that Udina goes crazy, tries to betray the Council, gets loads of people killed, and yet there is very little fallout afterwards. We've no idea who represents humanity in Citadel politics, if anyone. It's kinda swept away. So this was a start at an attempt to fix that.

Requirements

This requires Priority: Citadel II to have been completed, there isn’t a need for a new Councillor until that mission has been completed.

Spectre Terminal Message

Councillor Election

The actions of Councillor Udina have had a devastating impact on the morale of the colonies, with few knowing who to rally behind, and with the disdain for authority exhibited by humanity, they do not know who to trust. A figurehead is needed to rally behind, one that supports military actions and who has the diplomatic skills to run the civilian side of the war effort. Spectre intel has identified Ambassador Dominic Osoba as a prime candidate; his son was recently killed in action, yet he continues to be a supporter of the military, he is an renowned orator and is respected by other officials. Influencing politics will be a dirty affair, with tensions high, the spectres have sought the authorisation of the first human Spectre to enact their stratagems to rig the election.

AN ANN NEWS ALERT ABOUT THE NEW COUNCILLOR

Partially Developed Ideas

Spoiler:
A good chunk of these were going to be placed into the lesser races part of the mod, such as the ones dealing with the Raloi, Elcor and Kirik.

— Alliance brass wants to arm and train children for battle on colonies that are under attack by the Reapers, they hope this will help slow down their advance and provide a next generation of soldiers just incase the Reaping isn’t stopped soon. Post Priority: Horizon
— With the huge influx of refugees, C-Sec has requested authorisation of plans to remove all known criminals, past and present, from the Citadel. Post Priority: Geth Dreadnought
— Choose to leak false population data to lure in a Collector Black Ark to try and capture the human population of a planet, doing so will lose the colony but could destroy one of the few Collector ships left in space. Post Priority: Rannoch
— Researchers want to use a radical new approach to improving biotic strength through genetic manipulation or experimental amps. Though it produces extremely powerful biotics, it has a high fatality rate and many of those who survive it gain a form of psychosis as a result. Post Priority: Rannoch
— Authorising the use of nuclear suicide bombs on Reaper processing plants following the success of the Miracle at Palaven. Post Priority: Thessia
— Shiala of the Feros colony has proven that it is possible to halt Reaper indoctrination through being exposed to thorian spores, authorise the testing of these spores on known indoctrinated agents to try and find a ‘cure’ for the symptoms. Post Priority: Thessia
— A choice between saving Elcor families by evacuation, or using the ships to transport stores of fertilised elcor eggs. Post Dekunna: Elcor Extraction
— As a backup in case the Crucible fails, you can authorise a generational/embyro interstellar ark to allow civilisation to survive the Reaping, in the hopes that it will rise again to destroy them. Doing this would drain resources from the war effort but provide the best chance of civilisation surviving. (goes well, until after Thessia at which point it is destroyed, losing you a severe chunk of assets, very complex, last to be tried) Post Priority: Palaven
— Threaten to reveal Salarian plans to uplift the Yahg to the galaxy in an attempt to get more assets for the war. Post Priority: Sur’kesh, requires listening to Yahg research logs
— A hacking bot that achieved true AI status is found on the Citadel and C-Sec are preparing to kill/delete it, you can save the AI from destruction. (this leads to three outcomes depending upon Rannoch end choice; save geth and it’ll leak files of AI’s being executed from Cit Archives, save Quarians and it’ll take control of mechs on the station out of fear for its own life, save both and it’ll leak the story but will help the war effort) Post Citadel Archives: Escape
—The Council were preparing to uplift the insectoid, biotic Kirik before the Reaper War, and many of their preparations are still in place. Uplifting them could provide powerful biotic support for ground troops. Post Priority: Tuchunka
— Pardon pirates in the Nemean Abyss for their crimes in an effort to get them to bring their ships into the Terminus Fleets. Post Aria Missions on Citadel
— A Turian General wants to coerce the Raloi into giving supplies for the war effort by threatening to sabotage their efforts to avoid the gaze of the Reapers. Post Priority: Geth Fighter Squadrons
— Hire mercenary teams to harvest Reaper corpses for useful technology, although useful tech will be gained from doing this, it will also lead to indoctrinated mercenaries/scientists turning against you. Post Priority: Citadel III

The other plans etc. will have to wait. They all make sense to me, but I'm sure they'll be confusing to others. So I'll tidy them up before posting them.

Edit: I'll update this thread with more of my plans once my PC gets back from the repair shop :<

Bad News:

My PC was taken to the repair shop awhile back because it suddenly cut out when dad was playing Mass Effect 1. It turns out that an electrical fault ripped through the motherboard, which in turn damaged a lot of my other components. To cut a long story short, my hard drive with the unfinished mod was damaged, meaning I have lost all my creative data that was contained within the tlk file. I no longer have a gaming computer, and have had to get a loan from dad to buy a new one, so I'm now selling off all my old PS1 and Gamecube games as I've got no other income just at the moment, thankfully he's fine with waiting to be paid back in full until I get a new job.

What this also means is that I am now left only with the vague listed plan for each race, a star system design for 61 Ursae Majoris (which I'm rather proud of) and the hanar/drell war assets I have written up, as well as my basic plan for the structure of how to implement them based on the outcome of the Hanar Diplomat mission. These were all thankfully still on my laptop. I'm quite sad about the loss of data as I'd have loved to have shown everything else I'd written up but I was a bloody moron and deleted my writing once I had put them into the tlk file.

Because of all this, I'm going to post up the vague listed plan for each race, and then I'm going to complete, in full, all the hanar and drell war assets. It'll all be open source, so if anyone wants to make use of them, I'd be more than happy to see it. I’ll start with the plan tomorrow and continue from there. I'll post the plan later today or tomorrow.

This is bad news indeed. It's sad that all it takes, is a hardware fault, for so much data to disappear. Have you tried recovery programs ? They may be able to save at least part of the lost data. I personally like to use scripts to backup everything of value daily, to avoid this kind of issue.

It's possible they will be able to try to recover it but I'm really not holding my breath. I may get lucky, but they seemed pretty sure that I'd not get my info back. The annoying thing is that it wasn't that long ago that I deleted the files from my laptop, I was getting annoyed as it was very cluttered so I deleted the files for work I had already put into the tlk, as I didn't expect a relatively new HDD to go down so easily. I guess I'll be learning from that mistake, heh.

The technicians are building a new PC so hopefully it'll be ready by the end of the week. If it is, if anyone wants it, I'll put the surviving spectre terminal messages, war asset descriptions, etc into a new tlk file for them to use. I'll be posting them here as well, that way, I'll always have a text-based backup. In the spoiler below is a basic layout of all I had aimed to achieve to improve the lesser race stuff, it is almost entirely renamed & new war assets, themed spectre terminal messages, and new galaxy at war categories, but there is some other stuff too. Here is a quick run down of anything that might not be understood fully:

1) "Future hopes" were anything I'd love to have made -eventually- once everything else listed was done. They were not expected to be reached, but were something to aim towards
2) All assignments were going to be text-based, despite how awesome it'd be to do gameplay additions. Not all assignments were decided on, hence the gaps
3) I added political figures as I believe they're more essential to keeping the war assets strong than the game makes out, they always seem a bit useless in Mass Effect
4) Some of the names/renames were not perfect, many were works in progress but the names gave an indication of what I wanted. I did have many pictures for the assets though
5) Not all are as fleshed out as I wanted them to be
6) I removed race names from war assets (where appropriate) as I've always hated how fantasy/sci-fi names things after the species rather than after the civilisation/nation/planet which make more sense. I especially feel its not needed when the assets already lie under a tab named after the race. It's a nitpick for me, that's all.

- Future hopes; Assignment added => Bargain with the Na’hesit; despite their losses on Anhur 2176-78, the Na’hesit still have a powerful slaving fleet roaming the Terminus Systems, preying on vulnerable ships and colonies. Try to negotiate the use of their ships for the war, or expend your fleets to destroy them.

DC1938 Aliens

- There is almost no content known about these, other than their world died, they used crystalline technology and they have only one known survivor, asset should be tech for Crucible.

- Future hopes; replacing some human npcs with Hanar and Drell npcs on the Citadel.
- Future hopes; add the Preaching Hanar and Delanynder from ME1 to the Citadel; Preaching as an ambient npc once Javik has spoken to people on the Citadel, and Delanynder as a merchant.
- Future hopes; Assignment added => Rakhana Evacuation; the hanar feel guilty that one of their own almost caused the extinction of the drell, and of themselves, and in a desperate bid to alleviate that guilt the illuminated primacy wants to rescue any drell still alive on Rakhana before the Reapers finish off the planet for good.

Humans

- They get more than all the other races, only a few missing pieces are being added.
- Rename Alliance category to; Systems Alliance.

Find the cannon and stop Cerberus from testing it.

Kirik

- As they’ve never been shown, and were about to be uplifted, very little can be done for the Kirik, I can’t think of any war assets.
- Spectre Terminal authorisation; Uplift the Kirik.
- Future hopes; add Ekram, the Kirik homeworld, and the star system it belongs to the game.
- Future hopes; Assignment added => Deploy Time Capsule; only available once the Kirik have been uplifted, their uplift gives them the intelligence to understand the time capsule, which may give the kirik a chance of succeeding if the galaxy should fail against the Reapers.

- Add war asset to the Terminus Systems; Lystheni Smuggling Ring, Lystheni Operatives.
- Future hopes; Assignment added => Locate Smuggling Operations; the Lystheni have been running a smuggling network throughout the Terminus Systems with Omega as a base, with Omega controlled by Cerberus they’ve scattered. Find their leaders to recruit them into the war effort.

Manswell Expedition Aliens

- Only very briefly mentioned, they were being researched by the asari before they uncovered the human Manswell colony
- No war assets needed
- An email update on the Manswell colony might suffice

- Expand the assets they bring to the war; Turvess Ration Stockpiles, Raloi Cruiser Ari’ka.
- Add spectre terminal choice dealing with the Raloi.
- Future hopes; if info is ever given out, then to add their star system.

61 Ursae Majoris System

As you might've guessed, I like to plan everything in advance so when it comes to making it, I know exactly what I want to happen. The idea for this was to get another human-centric system into the game which has some lore about it. I know humans are overly important so far, but there are so many human colonies we hear about but never see, it felt right to try and add one. Especially one that is in a real star system. Anyway, this plan wasn't completed, I never got around to writing the descriptions for each planet or going into depth over how they should look, but I've laid out the groundwork which someone else may want to add one day. :)

An Overview

Spoiler:
Useful Real World Information about 61 Ursae Majoris:

- About 31.1 Light Years from Sol
- It is in the southeastern corner of the Ursa Major Constellation
- Lacks the dust ring found around comparable stars
- A orange-yellow main sequence dwarf star with about 81% of Sol’s mass, 84-89% of its diameter and 57% of its luminosity-
- Age could be 500 million years old, or it could be over a billion, they aren’t sure yet
- No large substellar objects (like brown dwarfs or jupiter-sized planets) have been detected in a torch orbit, this bodes well for it having earth-sized terrestrial planets
- The orbit of an earth-like planet with liquid water would be centred around 0.77AU, with an orbital period 273 days
- If the star is as young as 500 million years old, it is likely only primitive bacteria could have survived on a planet in this system due to heavy cometary bombardment. If the star is older there could be more organisms found on its worlds

Mass Effect Information

- Appears to be in the local cluster
- It has human development in this system
- There is a colony world in this system called Sirona
- Sirona is the birth world of Lt. Ashley Williams

Useful Information Regarding Life-bearing Worlds

- Earth-sized planets may be on the borderline to make life, with so called “super-earths” possibly having more chances of life
- Some theories suggest that plate tectonics are key to life forming on a planet
- Gas giants are needed to stabilise orbits and soak up asteroids,
- However, there is a limit on how close or far away they’d need to be to be capable of doing those things. If they are too close, they will make the orbit of the planet more erratic and less prone to having life, supposedly
- Axial tilt is needed for seasons to occur on a planet, which is apparently considered a stimulant to biospheric dynamism

Useful Information Regarding the name Sirona

- In Celtic polytheism Sirona was a goddess predominantly worshipped in Eastern Gaul and along the Danubian limes, and particularly worshipped by the Treveri in the Moselle Valley
- She was a healing deity associated with healing springs
- Her attributes were snakes and eggs
- Statues have shown her carrying eggs and with a snake coiled around her arm (a link to the greek healing goddess Hygeia)
- At Vienne-en-Val there is a stone pillar that depicts her carrying a cornucopia, and at Sainte-Fontaine, she is shown carrying fruit and corn

What is needed for this system to work?

- A Star; 61 Ursae Majoris
- A planet; Sirona, a human colony world, likely occupying 0.77 AU distance from the star
- A gas giant; to soak up asteroids
- An asteroid belt of some kind seems apt
- Potentially other planets to make it feel more populous, I believe having one orbiting closer to the star and another beyond the gas giant would make the most sense
- Sirona has established a naming convention of celtic polytheistic gods/goddesses that are linked to Gaul, the Danube and particularly the Treveri, this should be applied throughout the system

The Star System

Spoiler:
Position

- This system would be found in the Local Cluster

Star - 61 Ursae Majoris

- As the real star is anywhere between 84-89% of the size of Sol, I’d suggest making it 85% smaller than Sol ingame
- In real life it has 57% of the luminosity of Sol, so it should be duller in appearance if possible
- Running with it being over one billion years old gives a chance for a garden world to have emerged

Planet 1 - Rock Planet - Intarabus

- Intarabus is another planet named to follow the naming convention established by Sirona, especially ones associated with the Treveri people
- There are few traits, powers, attributes listed about this god, because of this I feel that the planet should be something of a blank slate. It has a name, but little else of note, much like there is little of note about Intarabus
- If it is a rock planet, like Mercury or Mars, then it would suit the whole idea of there being little of note here
- I would position this as either the same distance from 61 Ursae Majoris as Mercury is from Sol, or it would sit halfway between Sirona and the star

Planet 2 - Sirona

- This is a human colony world, Ashley Williams was born here
- Orbital distance is 0.77 AU, with 273 day orbital period
- Sirona has the name of a celtic goddess of healing. Typically planets are named because some attribute reminds them of an aspect of a deity, such as Neptune being blue, or Venus shining brightly in the sky, it makes sense that is the case here too
- If that is the case, we know that Sirona was associated with healing springs, eggs, snakes, and bountiful foods. To me, that paints Sirona as a garden world that is perhaps being used for agricultural purposes
- Sirona is associated with healing springs, hot springs specifically have been used for therapeutic purposes. Though it may be a bit of a stretch, I feel that the planet could be slightly more geothermally active than earth
- To stop the planet sounding like some kind of paradise, I feel it needs some mitigating factor. If the planet was larger than the earth, it could account for it having more geothermal activity, with a slightly higher gravity, making it a little less comfortable
- Higher rates of volcanic activity would increase cloud cover, which would make this world that appears so bountiful and perfect on paper a bit less appealing to live on

Asteroid Field

- It makes sense to have an asteroid field, to give Lenus and Iovantucarus something to soak up to protect Sirona
- I see no need to have a named dwarf planet in this belt, although if one was to be added I would name it Xulsigiae, after mythical creatures associated with Lenus

Planet 3 - Gas Giant - Lenus

- As mentioned earlier, gas giants are needed to stabilise orbits and soak up asteroids
- I have chosen the name Lenus for this gas giant
- Lenus was a celtic god that was worshipped by the Treveri, specifically he was named Lenus Mars due to later roman influences
- Lenus, the celtic god, was known as “the protector of the tribe in battle and also bestower of health and general good fortune”. To me, that suits the role of this planet perfectly
- I can see Lenus’ role in the system going one of two ways; an economic stronghold, or a failed operation. The reason for this is in description of Lenus as a god, “bestower of health and general good fortune”. Although that applies, when naming the planet, to a gas giant that has shielded and nurtured development of life on Sirona, I think it could also have been named as a sort of good luck charm by those hoping to make money from its natural resources.
- As Mars was likely named for its red colour, and Lenus was known as Lenus Mars, it wouldn’t be a stretch to have a reddish hue to this planet
- Ancamna, Victoria, Xulsigiae, Veraudunus, and Inciona are all gods/goddesses/mythological creatures associated with Lenus Mars, perhaps they could be moons?

Planet 4 - Gas Giant - Iovantucarus

- A second gas giant, providing a similar role to Lenus, used to stabilise orbits and soak up asteroids
- I have chosen the name Iovantucarus, it is a bit of a mouthful
- Iovantucarus was a celtic god associated with the Treveran god Lenus Mars, who filled a similar function as a “protector of youth” and used as an epithet of Mercury
- Mercury was a god of many things, he was the patron god of financial gain, commerce, eloquence (and thus poetry), messages/communication (including divination), travelers, boundaries, luck, trickery and thieves; he is also the guide of souls to the underworld
- If we are to equate Iovantucarus with Mercury, then we could use this planet as a popular destination for travelers, it could be a place that is very financially lucrative, and the “guide souls to the underworld” almost fits for being a border from the warmth of the star to the cold, empty space between stars. Whether it fails at the first two or not, the third one works well, as it would be the last planet of the system before someone leaves the star system
- As it is the last planet before leaving the system, it wouldn’t be surprising if there are fuel stations here

Why add this system? Why visit it?

Spoiler:
I’ve thought this over and to be fair, there are few reasons why it should be added to the game; It is Ashley Williams birth world, which is an interesting fact but there aren’t many other reasons, there isn’t anything extremely important or unique to be found here. As a fan of the lore though, I’m a fan of seeing it, so these are the reasons -I- would want to see it:

- It is associated with one of the main characters of the game series
- It is a real star system. Sure, the planets are made up, but as much real knowledge as possible has been used to create it. There are very few real star systems in these games
- I love the lore, so to see a system that has only been mentioned in the lore so far would be great, even if there wasn’t much there

I do think that something is needed to make it worthwhile to visit. After pondering awhile and researching about Ashley Williams, I came across an idea; the 2nd Frontier Division. This division is the one that Ashley Williams was a part of when Eden Prime was attacked and it was almost entirely wiped out by geth forces. It is not without precedent for the military to recreate a unit that has been wiped out, or even entire armies, so a single division that is almost destroyed makes sense to rebuild. The idea I have is that the 2nd Frontier Division was being reformed and trained on Sirona, as a mark of respect to Ashley Williams for her work with Shepard/death on Virmire, and that these fresh recruits have been fighting the Reapers on Sirona.

Image

2nd Frontier Division (Image found on the net, it’s a decent image)
Military Strength:
+12

Originally stationed on Eden Prime as a garrison to protect a Prothean Beacon, they were nearly wiped out by the rogue spectre Saren and his heretical geth allies; one of the few survivors was Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams, who later joined the crew of the Normandy. The division was reformed at the culmination of the Battle of the Citadel and had been based on Sirona, Ashley Williams birth world, for retraining and to protect the agricultural world from slavers and pirate raids. The Reaper invasion initially dealt heavy casualties to the 2nd Frontier Division, but they have inducted grizzled citizen volunteers into their regiments and are prepared to face Reaper forces on any world that needs protecting.

Re: Mass Horizons

I attempted to do a final try at modding after finding this thread: post11489.html?hilit=%20enemies#p11489

It sounded very simple, just find the SFXSeqAct_AIFactory2 and change the SpawnTotal, but as per usual, it didn't work. I was editing BioD_ProEar_430FinalFight.pcc, which is the prologue file, which I was editing for the convenience of not needing a save file, and just as a simple test. I tried using ME3 Creator, Package Editor and Sequence Editor to do it. I didn't have much success, but one of them I managed to set the Value (as it explains in the thread) for SFXSeqAct_AIFactory2 from 5 to 15. But nothing showed up, there was no change. I have a feeling the hex didn't change despite the number 15 showing up. I'm not sure exactly what I would've done with the ability to add more enemies, but it sounded so simple, just editting a single value figure. Shame though :)

Playing around with trying to add enemies may have failed, but it did help spark and interest in getting my Spectre Terminals. Another thing that is helping is that my dad has decided to play through the first game with me on the new gaming PC. We've managed to get Shepard to become a Spectre, and so far he's loving it, he says it reminds him of a TV show, and I'm certain he'll want to keep playing through the games if he's already hooked. I'd love for him to see something I had written in the third game when he gets there, he would really love to see that.

Which is why I'm writing this message, to be frank; I can't mod this game, I love the idea of it, I love writing up for it, but it's just beyond me. I can insert stuff into a tlk file, that I can do, but I've already demonstrated I can't get a single Spectre Terminal to work even with people offering me 6 pages of help on the forum. So I'm reaching out. If there is anyone here who can add spectre terminal messages, private messages, adjust war assets, etc. who would be kind enough to do those sections, while I fill up the TLK with the finished spectre terminals above, I would be very grateful. Even if it was only one of the Spectre Terminal authorisations, I'd be immensely grateful. If you're interested, just send me a PM or write in here. If you're not interested, then I completely understand :).

The guys at the computer place managed to get my files back, including the mod. I've updated the mod with all the war assets I wanted to add, and all the ones that have descriptions. These have only been added to the TLK file, obviously I've not managed to get them into the actual game. :p
