Further testing. I swapped Aria's hench file for Nyreen's and she worked perfectly, so it's not some weird difference in how Omega structures it's hench files. I also checked with Procmon and the textures for her armor are being loaded.

Clutching at straws here but textures missing are dark as you point out, but if the material is transparent (not opaque) then you get the effect the picture shows. The problem is Arias armor is not opaque...

However some of the USER effects will be. Try going up the materials parents chain and replace the _USER material reference with a direct link to the Master material. Not likely the issue, but not got a lot of other ideas...

I tried starting up the Omega DLC just to make sure Aria was working correctly there. Same issue. I may have somehow messed up the original through some stupidity. So I'm going to try re-downloading the Omega DLC and really hope that solves it.

Aand that fixed it. The Aria armor problem and the power problem. No idea what I did to screw it up in the first place, but all is well now. Ah, the joys of modding ME3.

Thanks for the suggestions Kinkojiro. Gave me the encouragment to keep going when I was frustrated.

Nice job troubleshooting that, Sir.

I probably would have thrown my arms up in the air at the modding gods and figured it was one of the many modding mysteries of ME3, lol.

After the hours and hours of work I spent on modding the Arena GUI, no way was I going to let that all go to waste.

So due to the way the Arena sequencing is set up, it would be (relatively) simple to add two more henchmen in addition to Aria, for a total of 19. Adding a 20th would require a major restructuring. It's odd, almost like Bioware had intended for there to be 19 hench options. So I was trying to figure out who else I could add, considering that the only squadmates from the whole trilogy who aren't in the Arena are either dead (Legion, Nyreen, possibly Thane and Mordin) or are otherwise unable to join you (possibly Thane and Mordin). So I thought, what about Bray? A Batarian squadmate is a fairly common request I see from people, and Bray is pretty much the only universally liked Batarian. No idea if I'll be able to do this, so no promises, but my idea would be to modify one of the MP Batarian classes to make it work like a BioH file.

Why not the star child ? You would have to find a way to activate friendly fire to make him bearable, but apart from that, should be pretty easy right ?^^

How do things like powers and animations work, though, Sir? It sounded like for Aria you used a streaming hack to replace Samara, correct? That leaves me with three questions (remember, I don't have Citadel):

1. Does that mean Aria fully replaces Samara, or are you using a newly-named file that's a copy of Samara's and both are available?
2. Either way, this should mean that Aria essentially has all of Samara's powers, animations, weapons, etc. Is this correct?
3. Is there supposed to any voiced banter in the Arena from Shepard or the hench?

I would really love to see Thane there when using ThaneMOD (under certain conditions), but the real challenge I see is doing it in an immersive manner. For him or any other NPC you insert, you need the correct powers, animations, weapons, etc, or it just won't look right. Having Aria work off of Samara makes sense, as they are both asari biotics (I don't have Omega DLC, so I don't know if it gets more specific about Aria's abilities). Samara's gender-specific animations, animation style, powers, and weapons should all work well for Aria.

But, with Thane (or Mordin), I can't think of any existing squadmate that would be a proper counterpart. There is no biotic infiltrator squadmate in ME3, so nobody has the correct mixture of powers and weapons. Since there is also no other drell, animations may have issues. As far as Mordin goes, Tali/Kasumi/EDI are tech-specialists, but none share Mordin's abilities. All are also female and decidedly non-salarian, so there would be animation issues if Mordin was subbed in for any of the three.

I don't know who Bray is, but it seems like using non-squadmates (like Aria) may be the better way to go, as then you really don't have this issue. Or, at least, not as much.

Re: More Aria Mod

Postby SirCxyrtyx » 07 May 2016, 23:55

Sorry, looks like I wasn't clear in my first post. When I said that I replaced Samara, what I meant was that I edited the LevelStreamingKismet and BioTriggerStream objects in BioP_Global_Citsim so that instead of streaming in BioH_Samara_CitSim.pcc, it streamed in BioH_Aria_00.pcc, Aria's henchman file from the Omega DLC. So Aria worked exactly like Aria is supposed to, because I used her already existing hench file, which contains all the proper powers, animations and combat barks (in the LOC_INT). This was just to test that her BioH file would work though, as selecting Samara in the Arena GUI and getting Aria instead is obviously not good.

What I have since done is create a new streaming state for Aria, and edited the Arena GUI so that Aria is an option if the Omega DLC has been completed. Samara is completely unaffected by this.

There is no banter in the Arena, just normal combat dialogue (eg. ordering a squadmate to attack and they say "Alright").

Bray is Aria's bodyguard (and Kinkojiro's avatar).

For Thane, I could try using his BioH file from ME2, though I highly doubt that would work. I think the best bet would be doing something like I was going to try with Bray, and attempt to jury-rig one of the Drell MP classes to work as an SP hench.
