43% = Windows 7
7% = Windows 8
50% = Windows 10

Not particularly surprising. Windows 7 is the new XP after all.

Hi everyone,
Now that Windows 10 is out and it was a free upgrade to the majority of people, I'm curious as to the distribution of Windows OS' out there.

Notes:
- You can only vote once.
- If you plan on upgrading to Windows 10 but haven't yet, vote for Windows 10.

This isn't JUST my curiosity. I'm wondering what the fallout would be if we started using some of the inbuilt image codecs included in Windows 8+.

Why not just build some telemetry into the toolkit?

There's still a lot of reasons to stick with 7/Vista.. and even with XP sometimes.
Then, the games run on every one, so it seems lame to arbitrarily reduce the pool of available OS

I don't see a lot of reasons for Vista^^. But surely, Windows 7 remains the safest bet for old games compatibility wise. I know that for example, Rome Total War and it's mods are having problems with W10.

Not sure what this means as far as Windows 7 compatibility, but Windows 7 has 60% of the OS market share right now. Image codecs would *need* to be compatible with Win7. It's become the new XP.

Anything prior to Win7 we can stop supporting, but that would really only include Vista, since we stopped supporting XP with the movement to NET 4.0 (or was that 4.5... I forget). Since Vista and 7 are built on the same framework, my guess is that supporting 7 means supporting Vista.

@Femshep: Cos I'm lazy.

@Everyone: Fear not, I realised my mistake.
I plan on using whichever codecs are available, but the new ones support some DDS formats, which would mean less work for me. That said, they're almost all the same, so it's actually not as much work as I expected.

In short, not cutting out Windows 7, but making users with Windows 8+ muuuch faster. I suppose this only affects previews and AutoFix, but anyway.
