ME1 dialogue editing?

Postby dan_c » 07 Nov 2016, 03:20

Is there any tutorial for dialogue editing in ME1? I'm interested in deleting certain options from the dialogue wheel and sometimes skipping the wheel entirely (autodialog). I read giftfish's tutorial but nothing there has helped me, the game still functions as normal and nothing changes. I don't know if it's because it's ME1 (the tutorial uses ME3) or because I'm doing something wrong. I'm editing the .upk files from Packages/Dialog. I'm setting the data tags to blank and the flag tag to 0 to delete options from the dialogue wheel and setting FireConditional to false to skip the wheel entirely but none of these methods work. Everything is as if it was untouched, even the text I deleted is still present.

I still haven't done any ME1 work, unfortunately. Have you tried actually modifying the pathing by pointing entries to new/different replies and vice versa? I could be due to the different file structure in ME1 that ME3 methods won't work.

Yes, so far none of my changes have had any effect at all.

Packages/Dialog is a deceptive folder. As far as I can tell, nothing there is actually used by the game. The files you'll want to edit are in the Maps folder, which has subfolders for each level. Within the level folders, I'm fairly sure all files with dialog are in the DSG folders. The files are not so conveniently named unfortunately, so it takes some searching to figure out that, for example, BIOA_ICE20_03A_DSG.SFM is the file that contains the Anoleis conversation.

Well, it's working now. But it seems I can't access and modify every file in there. The dialog editor only loads very few of them. Is there a fix for that?

Which files won't it load? It may be that those files just don't have dialogues in them.

There's a big amount of unloadable files on each map folder. For example I can't find the elevator scene with Liara anywhere in the LAV folder, or the Joker dialogue after the geth ship is destroyed on Feros in the WAR folder.

Well, that would be because that file has no BioConversation objects in it. I'll put in a dialog box indicating that in the next release.
