The time is imminent...

Postby giftfish » 24 Apr 2016, 22:37

After gaming, modding, video editing, audio editing, creating massive spreadsheets, and everything in between using my 5 year old MSI GT780 (semi-custom from XoticPC), I'm finally, finally about to build a new PC. I've been stuck with the laptop for travel reasons, but now that life has calmed down a bit -- and money has been more cooperative -- I can finally get back to a decent desktop.

Here's what it'll look like :)

I am beyond excited for all that screen space. And, with the components, I'll be able to have the toolset, Wwise, VideoStudio, Excel, Audacity, and all sorts of stuff open and it'll still be pretty lightning fast. Wewt :)

I'm mega jealous. I'm stuck with a four year old iMac.

I am smitten with the motherboard, especially.

I just tracked that part down last night, and it's absolutely more than I need, but it also fits my needs better than a typical gaming board. I don't want all the crap associated with the gaming boards, I may overclock but won't be putting a ton of time into it, and I spend more time in intensive applications than I do gaming. And, as a workstation/server-geared board, it should have better reliability and construction.

I definitely won't be doing 4-way SLI, but I'm leaving the door open for 2-way, due to the size of the monitor and games/applications. I would have gone with H170 board and saved myself a ton of money, but they don't support SLI, which is very, very unfortunate. Lots of gamers may want SLI; not everyone wants to mess with overclocking. I wish Intel wouldn't have made those mutually exclusive.

Sir, you must have something other than a Mac, though... the toolset doesn't run on Mac >.>

True, the toolset doesn't run in OSX, but Windows runs just fine on a Mac.

It's okay, K. If you ever visit the US west coast, I'll let you come by and pet it :D

I've literally been dreaming about the display for months now. Every time I get irritated with window management on my tiny 17" screen, I have to take a deep breath and think about that display :)

No matter how fancy the screen, you need more than one of them for sure.

It's 34 flipping inches wide; I don't have *room* for more than one, lawl...
